Program Design

JAcademy 2017-2018

September- October

In September, the program starts out with a unit on Personal Management – Personal Victory. Students participate in training designed to increase social competence, self-motivation and self-confidence. Workshops teach students to establish an objective viewpoint of one’s effect on others, improve habits, and understand one’s own unique strengths.

November

Here in Berlin, students begin their first internship unit. Similarly, on subsequent internship units in Israel and London, students have many options to choose from, across a wide range of career fields. Interests and work opportunities may include media/telecommunications, marketing, event management, research and more. Students dive in, get experience, develop networks and begin applying — in practice — what they have learned previously in theory.

Interpersonal Victory

For the next 5 weeks, students learn about Social Competence in the business world and workplace. Students deepen their understanding of diplomacy and effective communications, learn more about emotional intelligence, and gain skills in negotiating different conflict models.

Special Winter Program

This is not a Birthright trip for tourists. Rather it is an enlightening opportunity for students to participate in the fast-paced, dynamic, Israeli workplace environment. JAcademy students work side-by-side with Israelis, forming unique work relationships and learning about the Israeli startup culture. In parallel, students learn Hebrew in an Israeli Ulpan, and live in apartments in a mainstream Israeli neighborhood. Students take public transport such as the the light-rail, to work, and experience the Israeli workplace firsthand. Depending on the student’s selected learning program, he/she will also get to participate in after-hours touring activities, while discovering new parts of Israel. Students may take part in one of more than 800 J-Internship work host opportunities.

February

In February, students head back to Berlin, for another skill module: Management for Agenda-Setters. The program addresses critical questions, such as: How can you become a management personality who holds up well under stress – not only in the workplace, but also in life? How can you build up your social skills for the workplace? The program also provides practical training in presentation, speaking, and negotiating skills – all geared to help make students leaders in their workplace and field.

Travel and Work in London

Students travel to London and participate in a third internship, this time in an English-speaking workplace environment. Students use the time wisely, gaining a wealth of experience, impressions, and professional connections that serve them well for years to come. For the last 2 weeks, students get a chance to explore London, and celebrate the holiday of Passover with a host family.

May

The topic of the last semester is Leadership. What is my leadership type? How can I impact people effectively? What can you do to hold onto the knowledge, skills and clarity you have gained during this year?

Finale in the USA

Having experienced professional internships in London, Berlin and Israel, the JAcademy year culminates with an incredible trip to New York. In New York, students meet with senior executives at banks, hedge funds, law firms and highly successful start-ups in the city. Students live in the heart of Manhattan, and network with senior contacts who offer guidance, mentorship and advice as students embark on pursuing their own career goals and life choices.

We look forward to receiving your application!
